If doors to the kitchen opened once and nothing can be heard, or footsteps can be heard with nobody in stairs hall, then it's 3-men scenario, so depending on where the 3rd guy is, wait for him to walk somewhere where he won't see you climbing to the entrance, make a noise and hide in a nearest dark spot. Sneak under your only entrance, move your screen so you can see the doors to the kitchen and the doors above them and wait.
